The Moult, Salcombe

Full refurbishment of an iconic listed waterside Salcombe landmark

The Moult is a spectacular listed C18 house occupying the most wonderful site in Salcombe, one of the finest waterside settings in the UK. Having purchased the house, the clients approached Bark + Bay Architects to carry out a full refurbishment of the property. This involved an appraisal of their needs, budget, and what changes were appropriate and viable.

The design scheme evolved into a major reconfiguration including structural changes at the heart of the house, designed and executed sensitively due to the listed status. The project involved the relocation, design and creation of two kitchens; several reception rooms; a cinema; twelve bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms; a wine cellar and even a cheese room.

A second part of the project involved the creation of an external swimming pool, located centrally below the house. This was an achievement both structurally, being located on the cliffside, and in terms of securing listed building consent. The property is set in beautiful grounds looking out to sea and into the Kingsbridge Estuary. We were appointed for all project stages.
